We did the walk from the car park, along the Monsail trail to start with and then off to the river. We went in August 2025 and some of our other walks along water had been disappointing due to lack of rain- but this was brilliant! Our dog had the best time ever as there were plenty of places for exploring and getting into the water. The river was incredibly picturesque- photos do not do it justice. It is steep and slippery in places but well worth it. It took 2 hours to complete with us rejoining the Trail at the end. All of our party had a great time.
Had a lovely walk over Millers Dale. We did the Millers Dale and Monsal trail, which took us just over two hours. The walk starts at the car park, where theres toilets and a cafe. The cafe has plenty of food and drink options, catering to vegetarians and vegans. The walk itself is beautiful but very stoney and at times can be steep. This doesnt pose a problem for those that can walk but isnt the most accessible if you prefer flat walking. This walk is dog friendly and child friendly if youre looking to go for a walk with the family. Would highly recommend.
Former railway station with an exhibition room, caf, toilets and plenty of paid parking, reasonably charged. It serves as a very convenient access point to an interesting part of the Monsal Trail. This largely straight and level path follows the line of a disused railway.Walking the trail to Blackwell takes around an hour, passing a huge disused limekiln, crossing elegant viaducts and negotiating atmospheric tunnels around the way. It's also an ideal cycling route. There's good signage along the trail, with information boards explaining more about the historic landmarks on the route. For a varied walk, take the Monsal Trail to Blackwell and return on the riverside path through Chee Dale. This is one of the most dramatic dales in Derbyshire. Near Blackwell, huge rock walls towering above a crystal clear river give the feel of a gorge. Before Miller's Dale, the rock gives way to a softer, greener landscape. The walk crosses stepping stones, rocky sections and involves some fairly steep climbs, taking between 2 and 3 hours.
