Free parking for access to the Chee Dale stepping stones walk. We got there early around 10am and found plenty of space, but when we returned around 3pm it was busy. Two ways to get down, the very steep way, lots of fun but not recommended for elderly or very young (picture included) or to the side is a more friendly walk down.
Free parking just outside Buxton, ideally placed for access to Chee Dale and the popular stepping stones. Impressive views over the dale and nearby quarry.Easy to find a space early in the morning but busy by midday. Blackwell Mill at the foot of the dale offers cycle hire and light refreshments. Information boards are provided outlining what's in the view from the layby. The full Chee Dale walk to the old station at Miller's Dale takes between 2 and 3 hours following the path winding through the dale, but this time can be halved by following the Monsal Trail, a much easier, more level route.
This is a beautiful walk, with breathtaking views. The layby has parking for about 30 cars and fills up very quickly , so an early start is advisable if the sun is out. The walk down from here is quite steep, so it's not really a push chair friendly route .Cheedale gorge is an ancient limestone gorge , with ariver running through it. This is a good day out , but be advised it can get busy, so crossing on the stepping stone can cause an issue , especially if there's been strong rain , as it can flood . I would be prepared to be patient as it gets very busy , so be prepared to wait at the stepping stones .All in all , it's a MUST , of a visit .
