The Monsal Trail is a traffic free walking, cycling and horse riding trail that follows the former Midlands Railway line. The Trail is about 14Km (8.5 miles) long between Blackwell Mill, in Chee Dale and Coombs Road, at Bakewell. The trail passes through four railway tunnels – Headstone (487 m), Cressbrook (431 m), Litton Tunnel (471 m), Chee Tor 1 & 2 (367m & 83 m). The Trail provides one of the most spectacular routes in Britain, with breathtaking views over the surrounding countryside. The Monsal Head viaduct is a famous beauty spot with fantastic views over Monsal Dale and the Wye valley a sight that is not to be missed. A public house carpark and toilets are available at Monsal Head althought this is quite a strenuous climb up many steps from the trail.
